Alpine Sports Newsletter / Alpine Action (UK) 1979
Alpine Sports was a one of the best known skate shops in the UK during the 70's boom years. There were branches in London (Brompton Road and Notting Hill Gate) and one in Brighton. Alpine was 'the' place to hang out on wet days and was renowned for it's multiple full page ads in Skateboard! Magazine. In the dark days of the early eighties, after the big UK skateboard magazines had folded, the Alpine Sports Newsletter was one of a few publications to keep skaters connected.
The publication was edited by Tim Leighton-Boyce (later editor of RAD) and also covered BMX and Roller Skating.
The Notting Hill shop had a change of name to Alpine Action and became a hub for the early BMX scene. Alpine Sports eventually went into receivership and was bought by a Swiss investment company. Mike Browne who was the marketing director of Alpine Sports founded Snow+Rock.
